Hi

RZH is the portfolio of Richard Hooker,
Designer / Art director, London UK.

Design is much more than making thinks look nice. It's helping things make sense, and making the most of the magic which usually starts with a good idea, be it big, medium or little. I've worked at Wieden + Kennedy London for the last 11 years and had the fortune to work on many great projects and many good ideas along the way. You can see some of them here, and yes, my middle name is Zachary.

I'm also a big believer in craft. I have a passion for photography, type, illustration, film, animation and technology, and in my spare time I also seem to like running, mountains and bicycles.

Here's a bit more trivia about me...

I’ve never shocked my Mum so much as when I popped into the world with a full head of orange hair. As a result, the rest of my childhood was pretty easy. I spent years going to school dressed as a small green alien. By 10, I’d climbed my first 14,000 ft peak in the Alps, and Mont Blanc by age 17.

If you think hard you can guess what position I played in rugby. I speak French ok, a bit of German, and a little Spanish. I’ve worked as a dustman, on a building site, as a landscaper, and cut grass by many a road. My strimmer was called Betsy.

I’ve broken both my arms (not at the same time). I’ve broken a concrete slab with my left buttock. I studied for 4 years in Birmingham, and today, I still try my best to study. I’ve ridden a bicycle in many places, including a very long road in Chilean Patagonia. I once played football at 13,500 ft. (We lost the ball in a local shop), and I feel incredibly lucky to have seen Everest. For the time being, my favourite colour is yellow, and my favourite animal, a polar bear.

Unfortunately I'm not related to John Lee Hooker.
